Comfort Vs Choice:
The Siddur we usually feel comfortable with, is the one we were raised with in our Temple, or the one we may use currently.
I was raised with "Gates Of Prayer" , and loved it, and still have a copy on my book shelf signed by my childhood Rabbi in honor of my Bar Mitzvah. Although I used it for many years, my feelings and practices have changed over the years.
I have many different Siddurs (Prayer Books), ranging from Ultra-Orthodox to Liberal Judaism, and ALL have some kind of impact on me, and I've taken bits and pieces from each, and included in my daily prayer practices. Ones that are 99% Hebrew, and I can read, but do I know what it means exactly, a few with Transliteration, making my Hebrew easier to read, to paper back, to large print, pocket/travel sized, etc..... About one for any type of Jewish person that wants a 'prayer book', I think I have your choice right here!
I love the "Artscroll - Self Edition, which happens to be labeled Orthodox, and I just received a brand new copy of Siddur Lev Chadash. Lev Chadash is published like many, in both Hebrew and English (No Transliteration), and was published in the UK for the Jewish Liberal Movement. I have already thumbed through it a bit, and have fallen in love, REALLY! While glancing, I literally opened it to page 581, why? Prayer for Birth or Adoption on a child.
Obviously, G-d is watching as this speaks to me personally, as my children are children from the heart, and were adopted, Thank G-d; How blessed are we all!
That really said, 'G-d loves you and there is a prayer for every single thing and happening and each person in life', which I knew, but a prayer for the blessing of an adoption, NOW THAT IS GREAT!
Comfort vs Choice? I choose, Choice!
