Hukkat

Parsha Hukkat – Torah Thoughts
Tammuz 6 & 7, 5773   June 14 & 15, 2013

Fundamental law, Extreme Focus, and Prayer

“And this is the fundamental law of the Torah……..and they take unto you a completely red heifer.” (19:2)
The Midrash states that when Moses ascended to the Heavens, he heard the voice of G-D teaching the angels the Parsha (Torah Portion). Why then is this Mitzvah assuming such an exalted place before G-D!?  Allow me to suggest the following: “Chukim” (The divine commandments whose meaning may not be understood by the human brain or uncomprehend-able) and “Mishpatim” (Comprehendible Commandments of our society), are two different and distinct sets of ‘Mitzvots’.
Just as there are two forms of ‘Mitzvots’, so too are there contrasting situations in life!   There is definitely a distinct time in our life that we are revered, respected, and held in a very high esteem, and our life and manner as Jewish persons of faith is NOT the subject of abusive behavior(s). I am obviously being extremely polite and some-what toned-down.  During these times, studying Torah and fulfilling Mitzvots may be compared to MISHPATIM, since we have every reason and great opportunity to proudly and properly execute the Mitzvots of G-D!  The tribulations of our every-day existence are not in opposition to their observance.  Absolutely NOT so, when we are faced with terrible circumstances which indeed warrant our vigilance against those who seek to destroy us.  When we are suffering and faced with continued harassment and threat, and what-ever direction we as Jews turn, our ultimate faith in G-D is questioned!
At these moments, our “Emunah” (our inner faith from with-in) and our sincere love and belief in G-D, may be compared to a form of……”Chukim”.   At that time, there is NO logical time to really believe, other than OUR unfailing and strict trust and love for G-D!
It is for this very reason; we must digest and fully understand that in our history, that G-D dearly loves the concept of “CHUKIM”.   Our ultimate test of sincere faith and trust is when this ‘trust’ defies human reasoning and intelligence.
The next time when YOU are mentally pushed to the extreme, presented a difficult situation, given a rather large road block, and feel…..well trapped or binded, remember, It is YOUR true love, YOUR sincere belief, YOUR loving faith, YOUR will in G-D that allows YOU and YOUR Healthy relationship with G-D!

Good Shabbos & Shabbat Shalom.
